The Ultimate Prime Male Review

The testosterone boosting market is, as you are no doubt aware, big business. There are a huge number of products on the market, each one claiming to provide the solution to your testosterone needs. Still, there are certain market leaders that appear to have more ‘oomph’ than the rest. One of the most popular over the past few years has been Prime Male.

So how good is Prime Male? There are many differing opinions out there, but you deserve the cold, hard facts. This article is designed to be your definitive source on Prime Male so that you have the full picture on this product. That will put you in the best possible position to make an educated purchasing decision.

What is Prime Male?

Prime Male is a testosterone enhancing supplement that is sold exclusively through the Prime Male official website. It is delivered in the form of a capsule that contains a mixture of a dozen all-natural ingredients. These have been chosen for their purported ability to enhance natural testosterone production in men.

Prime Male is not an anabolic steroid. It does not claim to be a testosterone replacement but simply a means to encourage your body to naturally produce more testosterone.

Why is Prime Male Needed?

Men will begin decreasing their testosterone levels from their mid- twenties. From the age of thirty onward, that level will decrease by one to two percent per year. This is considered to be a natural part of aging and is given as a major contributing factor to the ‘dad bod’ phenomenon.

The drop off in testosterone production that occurs as we get older will see a man experience decreases in . . .

  • Energy
  • Muscle mass
  • Strength levels
  • Libido

There are also a number of rather worrying secondary health conditions. These include an inability to control blood glucose levels, enhanced blood pressure, depression and increased levels of body fat (especially around the stomach area, as seen with that dreaded dad bod).

On top of all of these very real problems, many men are looking for a way to boost their testosterone production naturally in order to enhance their ability to build lean muscle tissue. They spend long hours in the gym every week pounding away with the heavy iron and are desperate for a way to counter their body’s testosterone sabotaging nature in order to see gains.

Prime Male Ingredients:

prime male ingredients

Prime Male is a combination of twelve ingredients that are claimed to be scientifically proven to boost the body’s natural ability to boost its production of the testosterone hormone. In this section we’ll put those ingredients under the microscope.

D-Aspartic Acid Calcium Chelate

D-Aspartic Acid Calcium Chelate is the flagship ingredient in Prime Male. This is a popular ingredient that many manufacturers are jumping on as the “T” boosting wonder product of the moment.

D-Aspartic Acid (D-AA) Calcium Chelate is an amino acid. It has been found to act in such a way as to increase the body’s natural testosterone production.

D-AA is known as a neurotransmitter. It triggers the release of luteinizing hormone (LH). In turn, LH stimulates the testes to produce more testosterone. In a 2009 study, 23 men aged between 27 and 37 were given a daily dosage of  just over 3 grams of  D-AA. They continue this dosage for 12 days. At the end of this trial period, their testosterone levels were seen to have increased by an average of 42 percent.

Another study had men who suffered from impaired libido taking 2.7 grams of D-AA per day over a trial period of 90 days. The results were quite astounding, with improvements in motility and concentration of semen ranging from 50 to 100 percent. This was directly related to increased sexual virility. At the same time, testosterone levels increased by between 30 and 60 percent.

The version of D-AA used in Prime Male is calcium chelate. The reason is that it is 75 times more soluble in water than the non chelated form of D-AA. The more soluble an ingredient is, the more absorption and bioavailability it will provide. Chelated D-AA is also far less likely to cause stomach upset.

BioPerine

BioPerine is a bioavailability enhancer. That means that it has been specially designed to increase the absorption rate of the nutrients that we put into our bodies. What this means, in effect, is that the inclusion of BioPerine allows you to get even more goodness out of the other ingredients. In fact, the manufacturers of Prime Male claim that BioPerine boost the bioavailability of those other ingredients.

This claim is based upon U.S. clinical trials that show that this ingredient can, indeed, increase bioavailability by up to twenty times.

The active ingredient in BioPerine is a pungent alkaloid called piperine. BioPerine contains between 95 and 99 percent piperine. It is sourced from the black pepper fruit from Southern India. This makes the black pepper fruit a far better source of piperine than black pepper, which only contains between 3-6 percent piperine content.

Researchers are not sure exactly how BioPerine boosts the bioavailability of nutrients, but there are a number of theories. It is known to interfere with substance converting enzymes such as UDP Glucanosyltransferase located in the small intestine and liver. This prevents the excretion of valuable nutrients because, in their natural state, the nutrients are too large to be excreted.

Piperine is also known to bind to Vanilloid receptors in the gastrointestinal tract. This catalyzes the synthesis of the messenger molecule cAMP. This molecule is known to activate Protein Kinase A (PKA), which inhibits intestinal motility and dilates intestinal blood vessels. This is believed to enhance bioavailability and absorption of ingested nutrients.

It is also likely that BioPerine stimulates the activity of digestive enzymes.

There are a number of specific nutrients that have been specifically shown to be enhanced by BioPerine. These include:

  • Resveratrol
  • Herbal extracts
  • Water soluble vitamins
  • Antioxidants
  • Amino acids
  • Minerals

Boron Amino Acid Chelate

Boron is an amino acid which has been shown in several studies to enhance the production of certain hormones, reduce inflammation and positively impact upon blood plasma levels.

In one study, men who took 10mg of boron for seven days were seen to have significantly reduced levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). This, in turn, led to a 28 percent increase in free testosterone. Importantly, the estrogen levels of these men simultaneously dropped by an incredible 39 percent.

In another study, men’s testosterone levels went even higher after supplementing with boron. After taking 6 mg of boron for two months, the free testosterone levels went up by a whopping 29.5 percent.

Korean Red Ginseng (4 to 1 extract) Root

Red ginseng from Asia has been known to have a whole host of medicinal uses for many centuries. One of those uses has been as a booster of virility and masculinity. In one study out of Korea, men who were given red ginseng for a period of 8 weeks experienced marked improvement in erection quality, performance and sexual satisfaction levels. A control group did not experience any of these benefits.

Luteolin

Luteolin is an extremely effective aromatase inhibitor. When aromatase is inhibited, the female sex hormone estrogen is inhibited. It is believed that luteolin binds to estrogen receptors, which may in turn reduce estrogen production. Another action of luteolin is to boost the production of testosterone.

Magnesium Citrate

60 percent of the testosterone produced in your body is bound to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). As a result, the majority of your testosterone is not freely available for use by the body. Magnesium has been shown to reduce your levels of SHBG. This enhances your levels of free testosterone.

In one study, out of Selcuk University, athletes were given 10mg of magnesium daily for four years. The men were separated into two groups. One group did 90 minutes of Tae Kwon Do exercise per day, while the other group did not exercise at all. Testosterone levels were enhanced in both groups but was more significant in the group who exercised.

Another study focused on serum testosterone levels in aging males. This study also showed that magnesium supplementation significantly increased serum testosterone levels.

Mucuna Pruriens

Mucuna Pruriens, also known as velvet bean, is a natural form of the amino acid levodopa (L-Dopa). L-Dopa has been clinically shown to boost testosterone levels as well as to enhance the release of Human Growth Hormone (HGH).

Mucuna Pruriens also has the ability to lower prolactin levels in men. High levels of prolactin have been shown to inhibit testosterone production in men. Further, it had been shown to reduce cortisol levels. Cortisol, as you are no doubt aware, is caused by stress. Studies have shown that stress induced cortisol has the ability to destroy testosterone molecules even before they are released from the testes.

Nettle Root 10:1 Extract

The roots of the stinging nettle plant contain compounds called lignans. These have been found to be very effective binders to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). As we have already discovered, SHBG binds to testosterone in the body, rendering it inert. Lignans essentially act as replacements for testosterone in the binding process. This allows for a far greater percentage of free testosterone availability in the body.

Nettle root also contains a compound called beta-sitosterol, which has also been shown to elevate testosterone levels.

Prime Male uses only the root of the stinging nettle plant, which has been shown to have a far more potent testosterone boosting effect than the leaves or seeds of the plant.

Each Prime Male capsule contains 160mg of nettle root.

Vitamin B6

A precursor to the production of testosterone in the body is the hormone androgen. Vitamin B6 is a known stimulator of androgen receptors. These then signal the testes to release testosterone into the bloodstream. Vitamin B6 is also known to reduce mood swings and help to offset the loss of libido.

Vitamin B6 has the extra ability to enhance the absorption of both magnesium nd zinc. This allows these minerals to work more effectively in their testosterone boosting actions.

The active form of Vitamin B6 is known as P-5-P. This is the form that is used in Prime Male.

Each Prime Male capsule contains 7.5mg of Vitamin B6.

Vitamin D3

There are a number of studies that suggest that men with high levels of Vitamin D3 are likely to also have higher levels of testosterone. In one study, out of the Medical University in Graz, men who supplemented with Vitamin D for 12 months were shown to have an average testosterone increase of 20 percent.

Vitamin D is absorbed from sunlight, yet many guys don’t spend enough time outdoors to benefit from this natural source. Prime Male includes 500 IU of Vitamin D.

Each Prime Male capsule contains 1500IU of Vitamin D3.

Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2 has been shown to work synergistically with Vitamin D3 to enhance the effect of both compounds in boosting testosterone. According to the results from a study out of Tohuku University in Japan, Vitamin K2 has been shown to increase serum testosterone levels by boosting the activity of testicular enzymes. In a study – though one done on rats – serum testosterone levels were increase by 50 percent after 5 weeks of supplementation with Vitamin K2 s compared with a control group.

The form of Vitamin K2 used in Prime Male is menaquinone-7, which has been enhanced to maximize its bioavailability.

Each Prime Male capsule contains 45mcg of Vitamin K2.

Zinc

As we’ve already found out, luteinizing hormone (LH) is a precursor to testosterone production. Low zinc levels are known to inhibit LH levels in the body. Supplementing with zinc, then will boost testosterone production.

Even slight zinc deficiencies can profoundly affect serum testosterone levels. This was seen in a study involving 9 elderly men with slight zinc deficiencies. Supplementing with zinc for a period of six weeks had the effect of almost doubling their serum testosterone levels.

The zinc used in Pure Male is in the form of zinc citrate which significantly enhances its bioavailability.

Ingredients Summary

The ingredient profile of Prime Male is the product’s greatest strength. It is comprehensive and each product has, as we’ve seen, got some solid scientific backing to attest to its effectiveness as a testosterone booster. The dosages of each ingredient in this product are all clearly stated and it appears that they are all fully dosed. This is a marked improvement on many competing products which fail to fully dose on the most expensive products, and then hide the fact behind a proprietary blend. There is none of that sort of carry on in Prime Male.

Who is Behind Prime Male?

Prime Male is produced by a company called Propura, which has its main office in London. The Propura team is led by a PhD research chemist. They ensure that any ingredients used in their products are clinically verified to be efficacious based on clinical studies that have been published in prestigious medical journals.

Propura are very stringent in ensuring that none of their products contain any harmful synthetic ingredients. They undertake extensive research to ensure that their formulas and dosages are the most potent available while also being completely safe. Unlike some companies, they will not mega dose an ingredient simply for marketing purposes.

The contact details for Propura, as listed on the official website, are:

How to Take Prime Male

Prime Male is available in capsule form. Each capsule contains 750mg of ingredients. It is recommended that you take 4 tablets per day, spread three hours apart. The official Prime Male website suggests that you should take one capsule at each of the following times:

  • 8 am
  • 11 am
  • 2 pm
  • 5 pm

Prime Male should be taken every day, regardless of whether or not you are working out on that day.

How Effective is Prime Male?

Prime Male will increase testosterone production. However, it will not do so overnight. It will take some time for the ingredients to build up in your system and take effect. This may be up to 90-days for some people. However, the steady increase in testosterone level will be long lasting, so long as you stick with the product.

The effects of the enhanced testosterone production that comes with Prime Male are increased energy, enhanced muscle building potential, improved libido and virility and enhanced strength.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Prime Male contains only natural ingredients. As a result, there are no red flag side effects with this product. However, the combination of different ingredients may result in the following unpleasant effects in some people:

  • Headaches
  • Mood swings
  • Diarrhea
  • Gastric discomfort

D-Aspartic Acid, at high levels, may cause liver problems. At the recommended dosage it will not do so, but you should not take more than the suggested dosage.

How Much Does Prime Male Cost?

You have three purchasing options on the official Prime Male website:

  • A one-month supply costs $69 (plus $7.94 shipping and handling)
  • A two-month supply costs $138 (free USA and UK shipping)
  • A three-month supply costs $207 (free shipping worldwide)

What’s Not So Good About Prime Male?

We’ve got to say that, after in depth analysis, we are very impressed with what Prime Male offers. However, there are a couple of things that are troubling to us. The most significant is that the Prime Male 90-day satisfaction guarantee only comes into play when you purchase a 3-month supply of the product, at a cost of $207.

This is a red flag for us. There should never be a minimum purchase stipulation in order for a guarantee to come into effect.

Some users have also complained of severe headaches when taking Prime Male.

Prime Male is only available through the official website. It is also quite an expensive product, with a 30-day supply costing $69 (plus $7.95 for shipping and handling).

Prime Male VS Testofuel

Testofuel is a major competitor to Prime Male. Here’s a chart to show you how they compare . . .

 # of IngredientsPrice per Bottle90-Day Guarantee
Prime Male12$69Must purchase triple pack
Testofuel 8$65Must purchase triple pack

Prime Male appears to be marketed more towards older guys whereas Testofuel is aimed directly at the younger guy intent on muscle building. Seven of the ingredients are common between the two products. However, Prime Male does not include Fenugreek.

Both products have great user reviews, so it really comes down to how your body responds to each individual formulation.

The Final Verdict on Prime Male

Prime Male has a lot going for it. It is the most ingredient packed testosterone booster that we have come across. And those ingredients haven’t just been thrown in there to beef up the profile. Each of them has got clinical backing to support its inclusion. This supplement is also well dosed, with none of the ingredients being either too low or too high. So, in terms of the actual product, we have no problems.

The only issues we have are to do with the marketing decisions around the product. Naturally, the guys at Profura want you to buy the 3-month option, but it is not good enough to only offer a guarantee on that option. They also only cover shipping on purchases of multiple bottles.

However, as we’ve stated above, you should be taking Prime Male for 3 months to see real, lasting results anyway. That being the case, we recommend jumping directly to the 3-month purchase option. Your two hundred buck investment will give you  a definite advantage in the testosterone boosting stakes!
